• Chess with a difference!  
• This is a new event for us to round off the season.  We will play 'variant' chess games all day, and over 7 rounds we played: 

1. King of the hill -- all the normal rules of chess PLUS you win if you get your King to any of the four central squares: d4 e4 d5 e5.
2. Losing chess -- (1) win by losing all your pieces or stalemate, (2) captures are forced.  No check or checkmate.
3. Three check chess --  win by checkmate OR if you give three checks in total.
4. Maiden's Game -- all the normal rules of chess PLUS captures are forced.  [Invented by girls in Morocco before 1280!]
5. Marseillais Chess -- (1) White makes the first move, (2) after that, two moves each per turn, (3) check on the first move ends your turn.  Win by checkmate.
6. Guard Chess -- all the normal rules of chess PLUS you cannot take a guarded piece.
7. Duck Chess -- move a piece then a duck, which is a blocker 

We also tried between us: Smess/All the King's Men/Take the Brain/Schlaukopf, Chess960/Freestyle, Scotch/Progressive Chess, Blindfold chess.

We had up our sleeve: Chinese Chess (Xiangqi), Japanese Chess (Shogi), Hexagonal Chess.
